Why so colorful?
The Colorful Friend was born as a term of endearment by a new-at-the-time friend who needed a way to describe me to her less “free-spirited” friends and family members. During our long shifts at work together, she was often, by choice or by shortage of alternatives, regaled with my wild tales of adventure, love, loss, joy, and learning. Occasionally, she would go home and retell those stories to people to whom I was a faceless stranger, and before long, she had begun introducing me to others as her “colorful friend”. While this may have felt hurtful from the lips of a less kind person, I knew that she always meant it in the gentlest sense. I have been called all kinds of things in my life, but “colorful”? I embrace that adjective wholeheartedly.
I consider myself extremely privileged to have lived a life so full of varied and vibrant hues: a veritable artist’s pallette of color in every sense of the word. I can only hope that my stories, photos, project journals, and memories add some to yours.
With Love,
Your Colorful Friend
